This is a list of countries by oil production, as compiled from the U.S. Energy Information Administration database for calendar year 2019, tabulating all countries on a comparable best-estimate basis. Compared with shorter-term data, the full-year figures are less prone to distortion from periodic maintenance shutdowns and other seasonal cycles. Petroleum in the United States has been a major industry since shortly after the oil discovery in the Oil Creek area of Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1859. The petroleum industry includes exploration for, production, processing (refining), transportation, and marketing of natural gas and petroleum products. As of 2019, the U.S. is the world's largest oil producer. US production is over-stated by at least 2 mbd. This means that US oil production will at very best average this year 10.8 -11.0 mbd and around 10 mbd or less in 2020. Production is expected to increase even more next year in the Permian as three oil pipelines are completed between August and December in Texas. The pipelines will provide an outlet for crude oil produced in the Permian Basin and increase shipping capacity by as much as 2 million barrels of oil a day. However, many new records should be set this year, as the EIA projects that oil production will reach 11 million BPD by year-end.
